Ji Zhang is a Brisbane-based tenor, originally from Ningbo, China. He is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in 2021, where he obtained a Bachelor of Music in Performance under the tutelage of Dr Margaret Schindler.
During his four years of study, Ji performed various principal roles in the conservatorium opera productions, particularly Rodolfo in scenes of La Boheme, Don Josè in scenes of Carmen, and Don Basilio in scenes of The Marriage of Figaro.
At the start of 2021, Ji made his Opera Queensland debut as Chick Tong in Paul Hodge’s new opera Riot, and in the following years, he took part as a chorus member in La Traviata, Macbeth, Così fan tutte and the Ring Cycle.
Between 2019-2022, Ji was the recipient of the Saint Andrew’s Uniting Church Tenor Choral Scholarship in collaboration with Musica Viva Australia, sparking his interest in religious music. In 2021 and 2022, Ji participated in the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program, where he undertook intensive vocal coaching with several internationally acclaimed performers including Professor Lisa Gasteen AO, Bradley Daley and Philip Mayers.
